FUNDACIÓN DEL PATRIMONIO HISTÓRICO DE CASTILLA Y LEÓN
THE HISTORIC HERITAGE FOUNDATION OF CASTILLA Y LEÓN (SPAIN)

The indisputable value of the Historic Heritage in the Region of Castilla y León (Spain), as well as the enormous quantity of assets that integrates it, require actions borne by the commitment of society to maintain and to preserve the heritage.
With the purpose to contribute to the restoration of cultural heritage that integrates the Historic Heritage of Castilla y León, and also to facilitate its promotion, the FUNDACIÓN DEL PATRIMONIO HISTÓRICO DE CASTILLA Y LEÓN was created by the subscription of a protocol on the 6th of November 1996, establishing the participation of six savings banks which have their central office in the Autonomous Region of Castilla y León: Caja de España, Caja Duero, Caja de Ahorros Municipal de Burgos, Caja de Ahorros del Círculo Católico de Burgos, Caja Segovia and Caja de Ávila; and the Junta de Castilla y León (i.e. the Government of Castilla y León). In this document the commitment was made to create a Private Cultural Foundation with the purpose to contribute to the restoration of heritage that integrates the Historic Heritage of Castilla y León (heritage declared Cultural Interest - BIC) and to facilitate their promotion and their spreading by organizing activities that help to achieve the objectives of the Foundation, with the financial participation of the collaborating organizations.
The engagement of these participating organizations have a steady character: the founding organizations participate in the management of the foundation through their representation in the governing organs: the Board of Management and the Executive Commission of the Foundation.
The effort of the founding organizations was recognised at the same moment of the creation of the Fundación del Patrimonio Histórico de Castilla y León. The savings banks of the region received the WINTERTHUR ECONOMICS PRICE FOR CULTURAL SPONSORSHIP and were nominated as finalists for the FINANCIAL TIMES CEREC PRICE on the subject of heritage.
The objectives of the Foundation can be resumed, on the one hand, by the conservation, the restoration and the increase of the Historic Heritage of Castilla y León, and on the other hand, by involving in this task all the castilian-leonese citizens, so that a conscience is created of the value and the importance of the heritage. Today, the Foundation tries to involve the business sector in its activities, by offering the possiblity to realize joint projects. By doing so, the Foundation becomes an organization that agglutinates the participation of the social initiatives in Castilla y León in the promotion and the protection of heritage and that directs the active commitment of the citizens.
It is equally a key objective of the Foundation to establish relations with similar organizations in the countries of the European Union in order to obtain a mayor support by Community funds for institutions that defend and spread the historic heritage.
